Our Family Creed

Hey everyone.....this was a speech that i made when i was in my school.....this is actually a speech made by John D. Rockefeller, Jr, i thought i could share it with all of you because i felt that it made some sense.

Our Family Creed
The Things That Make Life Most Worth Living

Here are the principles on which my wife and I have tried to bring up our family. They are the principles in which my father believed- and by which he governed his life. They are the principles, many of them, which I learned at my mother's knee. They point the way to usefulness and happiness in life, to courage and peace in death. If they mean to you what they mean to me, they may perhaps be helpful also to our sons for their guidance and inspiration.

Let me state them:

I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.
I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master.
I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living. I believe that thrift is essential to well ordered living and that economy is a prime requisite of a sound financial structure, whether in government, business or personal affairs.
I believe that truth and justice are fundamental to an enduring social order.
I believe in the sacredness of a promise, that a man's word should be as good as his bond, that character-not wealth or power or position -is of supreme worth.

I believe that the rendering of useful service is the common duty of mankind and that only in the purifying fire of sacrifice is the dross of selfishness consumed and the greatness of the human soul set free.
I believe in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name, and that the individual's highest fulfillment, greatest happiness and widest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with His will.
I believe that love is the greatest thing in the world; that it alone can overcome hate; that right can and will triumph over might.

These are the principles, however formulated, for which all good men and women throughout the world, irrespective of race or creed, education, social position or occupation, are standing, and for which many of them are suffering and dying. These are the principles upon which alone a new world recognizing the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God can be established.

THE BRICK

I came upon this nice story and thought i would share it with you all in this season. Some of you might have heard it before but i guess it is worth a read again

THE BRICK
A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, 'What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?'

The young boy was apologetic. 'Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do,' He pleaded. 'I threw the brick because no one else would stop...' With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. 'It's my brother, 'he said 'He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up' Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, 'Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me.' Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling ump in his throat.. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. 'Thank you and may God bless you,' the grateful child told the stranger.

Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home..It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: 'Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!'

God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.

Thought for the Day:
If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring. He sends you a sunrise every morning.
Face it, friend - He is crazy about you!

God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

GOD BLESS!!!

Thought about a 'Thought'

A spark, a flash
A speck in an ocean of jumble -
A thought born
Grows in leaps and bounds
Until it becomes a web
So complex yet so beautifully woven
That to decipher would be a Herculean task.

To think about a thought
To wonder about its depth
To deliberate about its growth
To feel your thought as a separate thought
That is a feeling; an exhilaration
That few get to know and fewer get to feel!

A Life of Purpose

So small, so strong,
So focused, so industrious,
Laboriously, patiently, silently,
Treading a path towards your goal.
Thou art so short lived
And yet thou findeth a purpose in life
To plan, to save, to work
For thy community.

Unwavered by the dangers
That threaten each day
Thou worketh,
Knowing thy reward shall lie
In doing thy best each day.
Brother Ant, so tiny among the created things,
I thank thy Creator
For the wisdom endowed upon thee!

Arise

A new day has come

A beautiful morn is born

Arise,

Go forth,

Work and serve each day

Till the day's toil is done

Till the Sun goes back to its slumber

And even after the Moon rises

Work to change the destiny

of those around you and yourself

Smile

A smile from the heart
can touch deep within
and become a spring of life
that lightens the soul
and blooms as new life
to those around
so,
Smile!
